Our Story
My mother had a generous heart. Her love language was gifting.
But what made her truly special was that her gifts were never ordinary. She had a knack for finding the most unique, colorful (often random) treasures, the kind that made you smile and wonder, where did you even find this?
One of those treasures was a pair of lime green shorts she gave my son Julian when he was four years old. Julian fell instantly in love with them.
Even though they were nearly impossible to match with any T-shirt, he wore them day in and day out, proudly and unapologetically. It didn’t surprise me. Julian and my mom had always shared the same quirky spark, the same joyful self-expression, marching to the beat of their own drum. They recognized something in each other.
When Julian turned seven, my mother suddenly passed away. It was a heartbreaking loss, and a difficult thing for a child to understand. In his own beautiful way, Julian held tightly to the things that kept Grandma close. The lime green shorts became one of those anchors.
As children do, Julian grew quickly. Every few months we sorted through clothes that no longer fit, preparing donation boxes. And every year, during our closet cleanout, the green shorts would resurface. We would debate whether it was finally time to let them go.
Julian would try them on.
And somehow, they would still fit.
It left me puzzled. But Julian had a simple explanation.
Grandma had put magic in them. They grew as he grew.
And just like that, the story of Juju and the Magical Shorts was born. A story about love, loss, imagination, and the invisible threads that keep us connected to the ones we love.
